HELOISA - Hellenic Operational Integrated Service for Aquatic ecosystems
Started At:
01/08/2024
Title:
Axis 3 Water Monitoring Service
Program:
Greek National Space Program funded by RRF of the European Commission (ESA)
Duration:
20 months
Summary:
Water Quantity Monitoring
Using SAR, and multispectral imagery for detailed water quantity/delineation mapping for precise monitoring of water extent for various water bodies: for inland and for coastal management.
Water Quality Monitoring
Using Advanced optical, multispectral, hyperspectral, thermal sensors for detecting and monitoring a wide range of water quality parameters, optimized with in-situ measurements, continuous monitoring of water quality shall be implemented to detect pollutants, algal blooms, and sedimentation.
Maritime Surveillance
Through integration of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), optical imagery, sensors for comprehensive maritime surveillance, including AI and machine learning algorithms for automatic detection and classification, sea surface areas shall be monitored for detection and classification of various features and objects including pollutants (oil spills, debris, plastics, etc) and anthropogenic objects (vessels, installations, etc).
This project (ESA Contract No. 4000145365/24/NL/FFi) was carried out under a programme of, and funded by, the European Space Agency.
